Im getting a new video card, Why do people say download the drivers online?

Im getting a new video card for christmas, It comes with the drivers on a disk.

But why do people say download the drivers online from the makers of the video card, rather than use the disk?

Thanks,

Matt|||The CD's were pressed long before the cards were finished, and God knows how long it had been sitting on a shelf or in transit between factory and store. So you can be sure the driver on the CD is DEFINITELY old and outdated.

KEEP OUT! Trespassers will be violated!|||driver update so fast the drivers on the disc are often not the newest - and the newest drivers will have fixes for spesific problems that arise in new games and such. Generally its beneficial to have the newest drivers for that reason.

But its not imperative - certainly the card will generelly work fine with the disc drivers too.

-Stigma|||The company selling your card don't regularly update the drivers for the your card. They might sell a batch of 200,000 over a three month period. This means your driver could be months out of date. You benefit from the new drivers, greater reliability, speed and compatibility|||Because the ones online are the most current. If you load from the disk you are still going to have to go online to update the drivers anyways.|||Online drivers are updated all the time. Disk drivers are old and will always be the same.
