Is it possible to upgrade the video card of my dell inspiron laptop?

Is it required to only buy the graphics card at dell company since my laptop is dell?|||It is not necessary to buy a graphics card from Dell even if you own a Dell laptop. Chances are that you will get charged more from Dell. However, if you change the graphics card on your own, you will probably violate the warranty on the laptop. What I would suggest is checking the specifications of the laptop and finding what socket does the graphics card require (and the type, e.g. AGP). You can then hunt for a newer graphics card and their prices on websites such as newegg.com. Also check for graphics card reviews on anandtech.com and Tom's Hardware. I hope that you are comfortable with opening the laptop though, since it can be a pain.



If you are not comfortable with fiddling with laptop hardware, I recommend contacting Dell for the upgrade. In any case, don't forget to back up your data.

U can choose to buy it from other software retailers/stores. Please call Dell customer care and ask them which graphic cards ur notebook/desktop can support? Take the list and then buy onli those cards which are in the list. Dell is cheap when u buy a new notebook/desktop. But now as u have already bought ur notebook/desktop, u better buy it from outside retailers.

I recently bought a Core Duo technology enabled Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook with inbuilt Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (224MB). Im very much satisfied with it. Well, if u want to use ur notebook or desktop for 3D games, then i recommend 128MB ATI mobility Radeon X1300 Hyper Memory Graphics Card (Its available in 256MB also). My friend has it on his new Dell Workstation notebook. It will give u a live experience, that's for sure. Well, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is cheaper than ATI mobility Radeon. There's a difference of $30-$40.

Thanks!!|||No, you can not upgrade the graphic card in an Inspirion. They are build into the system board. Being a laptop, you have no AGP or PCI slot into which you could insert a new card. You are stuck with what you have. If it was a desktop, you could buy a card aware for it. But not with a laptop.|||It is if you have Nvidia's MXM formfactor or ATI's fornfactor. this is only in very recent systems. Nvidia and ATI are not interhangeable. If you have one or the other, that's the brand you are stuck with
